Canon Canoscan 8800f Color Scanner Review

The Canon Canoscan 8800F color scanner retails for around $199.99. It is a simple scanner to use, but offers high quality scans. It has LED. So, there is no time wasted waiting for the scanner to heat up. This flatbed scanner does an excellent job of not only scanning photographs, but also films.

The scanner has an optical resolution of 4800 pixels per inch. It can scan around 4 slides at a time, or two six frame strips of 35 mm negatives at one time. This could be its only drawback.

It is quite easy to set up the Canon Canoscan 8800F color scanner. All you need to do is install the software onto your computer and then plug in the power cord and attach the scanner to your computer using the USB cable. The scanner comes with 2 photo editors, namely Photoshop Elements and ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5. It also has more software for managing documents and converting scanned documents to text, which can be edited. The additional software are NewSoft's Presto! PageManager 7.15 and ScanSoft OmniPage SE 4.0.

The good news is that you can use the scanner with Windows XP. Also, it comes with drivers for using it with Windows Vista and Mac OS 10.2.9 via 10.4.x. With Windows Vista, the scanner comes with Photoshop Elements 5.0, while with Mac the 4.0 version comes.

As you are installing the software, you will automatically install Twain and WIA drivers. The good part is that with this additional installation, you can scan from any Windows program using the scan command. Twain offers a simple and advanced mode for scanning. In addition, there is a multiscan mode, where you can scan more than one photograph, and each photograph is saved in a separate file. This is possible by using just one scan command.

The Canon Canoscan 8800F color scanner costs around $190, which can be expensive for some people as many consider this scanner to be a general purpose one, and similar scanners are cheaper than this one. However, the scanner is very versatile, and it can be used to scan sheets of text or graphics, pages from books or anything else kept on the glass of the scanner.
