Flip MinoHD Camcorder Review

          The Flip MiniHD camcorder is brought out by Kodak, and it is a pack-friendly small camcorder. The camera weighs just 3.3 ounces. From the retail shops and online retailers, the MiniHD is only available in black, but you can get other colors if you buy it directly from Kodak.

          The MiniHD has a USB connector that is attached straight up instead of the conventional attachment at the side. All you need to do is flip out the connector when you want to use it. The LCD screen is around 1.46 inches. Though the screen is small, it has a reflective covering so that the images can be viewed clearly even in bright sunshine. On the screen, there are touch buttons that allow you to navigate through the controls. Although this feature is quite nice, at times you do end up touching the buttons accidentally.

          The camcorder comes with a tripod, which can be fixed to the bottom center part of the camera with ease. The camera has an AV output port that uses a small jack, which is smaller in size than the standard jack. The MinoHD comes with a TV cable connector, but the output from the AV is unfortunately standard definition images. Nonetheless, the video images are sharp if you use the composite connection. Also, there is a chamois pouch for carrying the cable, and this pouch has the dual function. You can also use the chamois pouch to clean the MinoHD.

          The Flip MinoHD camcorder is made for simple use. Besides date and time settings, there are no other settings. It works on a single resolution, and there is no option to increase or decrease the resolution. All you need to do push the start button and start recording. Then, push the stop button to stop recording. You can use the playback button to check out your video.

          The MinoHD has rechargeable lithium ion batteries that can give you power to shoot your images for 2 hours at a stretch. You can store high-definition video files in the 4GB memory. The memory allows storage of 720p (1,280X720) video images in 60 minutes.

          The Flip MinoHD camcorder comes with the Pure Digital Video engine 3.0 processor and it has HD CMOS of 1/4.5 inches. In addition, the camcorder has low light sensitivity and the encoding rate that it uses is of 9Mbps. The large video files are compressed using the H.264 compression scheme.

          So, what does all this mean for the Flip MinoHD camcorder? It means that video output that you will see on your television screen will be quite sharp without any distortion. Of course, you are not likely to confuse the quality of images with real high definition images, but the video quality that you get from the MinoHD is quite good considering the tiny and compact size of this camcorder. You get good quality videos whether you shoot in bright or dim light. That is the beauty of the Flip MinoHD camcorder, and that is what sets this camcorder apart from rest of the mini-camcorders available in the market.

          For some people, the price range of $136 to $199.99 could be too high for such a tiny camcorder. However, the relative ease with which you can shoot the video, download it onto your computer and then using the redesigned FlipShare software, you can create a movie or single-frame images and share the same with selected people using email maybe makes the price tag worth it.
