High definition televisions came in to the market about 10 years ago and were instantaneously a big hit. They are affordable, have very good picture quality, and they have a new in built integration for Netflix movies and Pandora Internet radio which are present in many Blu ray DVD players.

Because of the blue colored laser used to read the discs, the name Blu ray's has come about. Data is stored on the disc as we do it in CDs and DVDs by burning many more pits but in a given amount of area.

Since the Dolby Lab’s sound technology is used in the Samsung BD-P1600 Blu ray DVD player, the sound quality is excellent and the image on the screen is also sharp. One can also connect this to internet using Samsung's Wireless USB Adapter which is optional. As compared to the other Blu ray players, this one has a faster loading time. There are certain additional menu options available like accessing website for games, upgrading etc.

Though Netflix is not up to the HDTV standard, one still can watch about 12000 movies and different TV shows. Setting up the Samsung BD-P1600 with Netflix and Pandora is also very simple. There is also USB slot both in the front and back. The front one is for Samsung’s Wireless USB dongle and the rear one is for JPEG photos and MP3.

Though this product boasts of excellent features, some of the users have noticed a distracting humming sound being made by the motor. Some people also felt that the flip down panel in the front portion of the unit is actually very annoying, to the extent that this is becoming one major drawback of the product.
