South Of Broad Review

South of Broad has been rated five stars by most of the readers. It is another hit in the history of books written by Pat Conroy. This book is about a rare friendship that began at high school level and lasted for a lifetime.

The main character, Leo King, is just in his eighth year when his elder brother commits suicide. It is a tragedy that shades his future with not much of a bright color. It is this impact that drives him close to a crew of members who become his lifelong friends and who also happen to be his seniors, older by a year.

The story revolves around Leo King and his group of friends who stay with him throughout his life. His group of friends include the Poe twins, namely Sheba and Trevor, whose father has been in prison and whose mother is an alcoholic; the Whiteheads, namely Niles and Starla, along with Chadworth Rutledge – X.

South of Broad has the typical writing skill of Pat Conroy. The language used and his way of story telling conveys that he is so very Southern. It is melodramatic and majestic with all the entertaining quality that makes the reader believe that it was worthwhile spending time in reading the novel. Conroy, with his style and selection of words, exhibits melodrama all the way that is entertaining and catchy. For those who love to read Conroy, this book might bring lot of cheer because this book has been written after 14 years. Conroy has definitely not let down his readers and his readers will agree that this book was worth the wait.
